Summer Reading 2020

This summer Caruthersville Public Library will have a special reading program – “Imagine Your Story”. This will be done in conjunction with the Pemiscot County Humane Society to benefit their group with an initiative called “Read for the Animals”. For every 100 hours of reading logged by the community, Caruthersville Public Library will donated $50.00 to the Humane Society (up to a maximum of $500).

Readers will log hours on our private Facebook page each week and the dollar amount headed for the animals will be posted often.

Each week, Pemiscot County 4-H facilitator, Ms. Mariann Wright, will host the online storytime, accessed only on our private Facebook page. We will also have “take and make” craft bags each week after the storytime for family engagement and fun to accompany that week’s story(ies).

Our summer reading program will take place online for the most part, with sign-ups on our website and Facebook page. Every child who participates will get a weekly badge and a “dogtag” chain to hold all of their badges that they can pick up after completing the week’s activity.

In July, the MO Conservation Agent, Brian Shelton, will bring some interesting animal items to our backyard, so social distancing can take place.

Summer reading will be a bit different, but hopefully still fun in these unusual times. We invite everyone of any age to sign up to “Read for the Animals” and help raise funds to help the Pemiscot County Humane Society.
